I gotta admit, I fell for his BS when that post first landed on Reddit. I do know about Script Hive but I never would've thought someone scrapped your site to pass it off as their own. I'm glad the ordeal had a happy ending for y'all.

The fxck you at the end is epic and deserved. A true nightmare guys. I see, you should be more active on Substack, I’m very much into writing and screenwriting so I’d follow you guys more closely now

I'm old school. It used to be that if you wanted to mirror a site, you'd write the admin to ask for permission (or a backup copy you could use). Such digital vandalism is inexcusable. Glad your community came through!

Also, reddit is a hellhole.

Reddit is not a "hellhole." There are a lot of helpful communities if you're in the right ones. Witness how quickly this was taken care of once it was discovered, and how quickly sentiment turned against this thief once the crime was illuminated.

"Not all the hells are bad, there's purgatory!" 😆

I remember what reddit used to be, and stand by my words.

I also saw that post last week and wondered how the guy had found so many scripts.

I second the notion that you guys need to work on some new marketing campaigns. I recognize the name Script Hive and probably visited it a few times over the years, but it doesn't come to top of mind when I think about where to find a specific script. Google seems to agree. I'll post a screenshot of a Google search if Substack will let me.

Yes I think this would solve a big problem, the issue is the metadata is behind the login screen. We are looking into a way to share at least some of the metadata without having to open it up completely. If we didn't require a login, the bot attacks would probably cripple us.

Oh, I’m so glad this turned out well! I was so excited when I discovered script hive!

Love the swift kick of justice toward the wrongdoing that Mike caused this awesome site and wonderful community. As a literary manager I value a database of scripts and I'm honored to be a part of this industry. Thank you for everything you do and for all the years of sourcing for us.

I really appreciate y'all's efforts in making scripts organized and accessible to all. I'm glad justice was served and hope even more people are aware of the positive work your team does.

Re promotion. Ask every member on the first Wednesday of every month to post something on socials (10am PT is peak) re Script Hive - a script they found, connection they made or just what it is and how to join.

And on the first Tuesday or the month post out to all script hive members with a specific ask - eg highlight a new script, something they’ve read

this is a great idea, thanks Phoenix!

This was bound to happen, given the nature of social media and the free resources at Script Hive.

I hope you guys take this as a learning opportunity. A happy ending as a wake-up call is paradise.

Just want to comment that I appreciate the work you all have done, and I’m glad I’ve been able to support via Patreon for the low annual price. It’s been worth it and I still have a backlog of scripts to read. Really unfair that someone else attempted to take credit for the hours of tech work you all have done. More could be said about the ethics of scraping tools, data ingestion, etc. but that’s up to the redditors to debate on I guess.

I haven’t used discord in years and don’t plan to, but please consider posting more about Script Hive updates and marketing obstacles, if any. I’d love to stay in the loop and support via Patreon or however.
